A Desert getaway to Scottsdale, AZ

So one of my goals for 2019 was to travel more. I am not talking necessarily about booking an international flight but to see more of the US even. I had never been to Scottsdale except that one time I passed by on my drive to Louisiana from California (Yeah crazy I actually did a cross country road trip solo a few years back but ill write about that another day).

I stumbled upon the most beautiful hotel and of course I had to make it happen. January is my birthday month and it also happens to be MLK weekend so that means a long weekend. The drive to Scottsdale from Southern California is actually just 5h 30 minutes, super easy drive. So told Gabe we were going, showed him pictures, we booked our stay, packed the Jeep and left California on our first adventure of 2019.

There’s not to much to see as you drive off I-10 east bound. Most of the land is barren but there something so beautiful about it. You see nothing directly ahead of you but in the horizon you can see the mountains. At some point if you take the I-10 you pass through pretty much Palms Springs and Joshua Tree. We were tight on time but Joshua tree would have definitely been a stop. As we entered Arizona we started spotting the beautiful Saguaro cactus everywhere, I mean they are gigantic. It is pretty impressive to see these giants since I found out that it can take 10 years for a Saguaro cactus to reach 1 inch in height (we saw ones as big as a 12 foot or more).

We got to Scottsdale about 2 hours later than we anticipated due to traffic and time change. We were hungry and I was on vacation mode, i wanted a drink and chips and salsa. Prior to our trip about everyone I know recommended Diego Pops for drinks. So Diego Pops was out first stop.

Prickly Pear and Watermelon Margs at Diego Pops.

The food was good but didn’t impress me. When it comes to Mexican food I think we are so spoiled in California. Oh! but the drinks were amazing. I would go back for happy hour that’s for sure. It is also the cutest and most Instagram place. Just check out their Instagram page here.

We checked in at the Scott Resort and Spa (Formerly knows as the Fire Sky resort) around 4pm. I am not sure if its the time of year but the weather was perfect at around 76F so I was excited to be staying there for the next 2 nights.

What can I say, this luxury boutique hotel is like an Oasis in Scottsdale. As we went inside to check in I forgot I was in the desert. The hotel is so lusciously filled with plants and tropical vibes and all of a sudden I feel like I’m in Havana, Cuba.

The details are just perfect.
The beautiful Canal Club.

The hotel was in the best location at only half a mile or less to Old Town where all the shopping and dinning happens. The hotel even offers complimentary shuttles. We ended up staying inside the hotel for most part of our trip. It really was a vacation meant to recharge and basically “chill”. I of course shot some outfit content the first day but after the hustle we genuinely just enjoyed ourselves.

Lounging in the most beautiful cabanas.

One of the most beautiful things about the hotel was our room. I did not capture any picture of it when we initially got there. At some point I remembered but we had unpacked and well it was too late. Note to self; take pictures before you get comfortable.

Scottsdale was so beautiful and I cannot wait to go back and explore more outside of the hotel. Currently planning a trip to Sedona, AZ but in the meantime Gabe and I are heading to Baja California, Mexico in about 3 weeks. Cant wait to bring you along.
